Each candle is unscented, hand poured using paraffin wax, dyed and shaped to resemble both a virus and a bomb. The form draws from old sea mines, which I began studying as a kind of self-portrait, something seemingly defensive, sensitive, and floating in tension.
I made this series of candles during my time at the Brewhouse 2025 Emerging Artist Residency. The series reflects on intimacy, fear, self defense and the ways queer people often carry all at once. By turning a symbol of danger into something you can hold, or burn. I wanted to explore what it means to live alongside threat, and still find beauty.
